have always combined the teaching of art with its practice. In the past painting in both oil and watercolour had been inspired by landscape observed on location and in all weathers. Gradually natural appearances gave way to more fluid imprecise forms which changed as the work progressed. Local colour and optical proportions were abandoned to become metaphorical interpretations of the place, though the original stimulus was sustained throughout.
