At the recent 'Holocaust' exhibition in Barry, I displayed work related to the Middle Eastern conflict. I am moved by the profound effect it has on families and especially children.
Ideas come from the Vale landscape, from collections of objects at home which somehow combine to form a compelling image. I enjoy the process of making, from first idea to final object, often much changed from that first glimmer! I like mixing materials, the textures produced when wax or oil reject water and often include found materials and fragments of newsprint.
Commissions
Murals for Family Centre, Llantwit Major. Portraits of houses in the Vale. Llanmaes Village commemorative mug and Christmas cards. Presentation painting for Town Twinning.
Exhibitions
Annual Exhibitions for International Women's Day with Women's Arts Association: St. David's Hall. Washington Gallery. The Gate. Art Central, Barry. Solo Exhibition for Holocaust presentation in Art Central, Barry, 2009.
My work at the moment falls into three main areas – sculpture, paintings concerned with conflict, and drawings and paintings of my home and local landscape. My early art training in South Africa was in sculpture and I ran a ceramic workshop in the '80s. Since retiring from teaching art, I have recently returned to sculpture, beginning to carve stone and wood again and to cast clay models.
