Last year I painted a series of garden-scapes as a convenient mode of painting outdoors. As a result, the pieces have evolved into life-size still-lifes that describe in a fresh and direct manner a vision of weather, garden and belonging all in one. This mode of working, in creating an immediate response to an environment feels comfortable and is a way I will continue to develop. I also work regularly from the figure, creating portraits and life studies.
Regardless of the subject matter, I love to use colour to create mood or emotion in my work. Colour I feel adds a passion and vibrancy to my paintings. It not only evolves as a response to the subject matter, but also it can reflect my mood whilst painting or even the mood of the sitter or the environment.
