VOGA goes

to Germany

and France

After two years of planning, VOGA artists and their work were warmly welcomed in two Vale twin towns, Rheinfelden and Fécamp in September and October 2005. Rheinfelden is a charming southern German district beside the river Rhine and Fécamp is a thriving seaside town in northern France.

Our Rheinfelden exhibition was displayed in the classically proportioned rooms of Haus Salmegg, a municipal museum in an early 19th century manor house overlooking the Rhine, with Swiss Rheinfelden on the opposite bank. On the balcony, members of VOGA discuss plans for the Opening with Ann Grundman, exhibition organiser, and Josef Raffler, interpreter.

In the largest gallery, Eileen Allen rests after the crowded private view on a very hot day! Foreground: two of Eve Hart's ceramic sculptures; on the walls: two works by Laura Holliday and Eileen's work commemorating the medieval Rheinfelden virgins. The view through the doorways shows part of a Lewis Allan painting, and sculptures by Paul Baker and Bob Hart.

La Grand Voile, a small gallery located near the quayside in Fécamp, was the main venue for our exhibition when it moved to Normandy. It is funded by the Municipality for use by the area's association of artists (some 90 in number). Showing in the window are Eve Hart's ceramic sculptures and a painting by Eileen Allan.

Centre: Bernard van Lierop's digital prints, paintings by Dora Hurst, Eileen Allan and Lewis Allan. On the plinth in the foreground are Paul Baker's ceramic sculptures. Right: Paintings by Angela Kingston, Geraldus John and Alan Salisbury. Our hosts on the twinning committee arranged for other larger works to be hung in the nearby Tourism Office.
